About Us

What Is The British DJ & MC Academy?

The British DJ & MC Academy is a professional DJ School that provides Education, Training and Industry information for young people and adults. Whether you want to be a DJ or MC or just want to learn a skill The British DJ & MC Academy is the place for you!

British DJ Academy runs for 8 weeks and is open from Thursday to Saturday. You will learn all the practical skills you need to progress in your passion and advise where to start to what to do for a performance. Whether it be crowd presence, presenting a radio show or performing a live set will be coach you to reach your full potential. When completing the course you will gain a national recognised qualification, The Bronze Arts Award (only applies to under 25's) issued by The Arts Council.

The Studio's are easily assessable via the underground. We currently have a studio in Aldgate East, Brick Lane and will be opening a studio in Notting Hill Very soon.

 

How It All Started

DJ Trickles & Lady MC started their partnership in 2004 on Kool FM, working alongside each other presenting their show. Trickles owned and ran Liberty Hall studios teaching DJ'ing to her clients whilst Lady MC was teaching lyrical skills and delivering workshops to schools gaining experience working with young people. The duo who have found the music industry pretty tough to get into decided to team up to give something back! By offering priceless knowledge, wisdom, skills and links into the industry.

Since running their first pilot accredited course in brick lane in February 2008 the duo have been making marks all over London with their unique workshops, engaging young people of all backgrounds, giving hope, focus and a ladder to success in all areas of their lives!

 

About Us and Our Courses

The British DJ & MC Academy is a brand new organisation set up by some of the hottest artists in the dance & drum & bass scene. Recently, sponsored by Gemini & Rewind Magazine and are now pioneering a new movement by channelling music through promoting young talent.

Providing you with professional and impressive studio's and hooked up with all the latest technology and tutors you need to get round the business as a DJ and MC.

The tutors have had over 10 years experience in the industry performing internationally including some of the most recognised clubs and popular places in London. They have specially formulated a course that which will teach new artists the skills they need to get to the next level, a course we wish we went on ten years ago.

The DJ & MC course offers you eight weeks of intensive training (one-day a week) and you will leave The Academy feeling positive as an artist and with a qualification in your portfolio (qualification applicable to under 25's only).

All tutors are very versatile in what they do so they will teach you how to be successful, professional and imaginative because lets face it the industry is fierce and if you not got dedication stop reading now!

We will provide you with course material to study in performing. If you have not got the equipment you need, we can advise you on the best kit to buy and places you can record your demos for affordable discounted rates. On the course most of the training is practical and you will perform in-front of an audience once you have mastered the skills to an efficient level.

We would ask all students to only enrol only if you are motivated and music is your real interest or passion as places are limited.

The Team and Special Guests

We believe the more you learn from different people the more versatile you are as a performer so we have matched up some of the most talented tutors you will be working with two tutors who specialise in different styles of delivery. After four weeks on the course when you feel you have confidently grasped the techniques of your chosen talent, you will be rewarded with the presence of some of the greatest industry professionals coming in from all musical backgrounds to show you support and you will be given the opportunities to ask for advice with a question and answer session.

 

Meet Some Of The Team

DJ Trickles
Second place winner of the Miami WMC DJ Spin Off and has been a DJ from the age of sixteen and has worked hard to get residencies and sets in some of the biggest places. She run a recording studio Liberty Hall for over three years and has specialised in teaching all courses and over 100 DJ's of all ages. You can catch DJ Trickles playing at just about every club in London and loves teaching young people and adults to get to grips with the whole scene in general. Some of the events Trickles has played at includes Ministry of Sound, Notting Hill Carnival, Mass, Fridge, Bar Rumba, Seone Club, Miami WMC Spin Offs, Jacks, Herbal, Turnmills to name just a few.

Lady MC
Starting her career in 1995 simply getting all her experience at live raves, pirate radio and MC'ing wherever so could! Since then she is internationally known touring the United States (East Coast) and all over Europe, an entertainer that has been making marks through-out the world working with the likes of Afrika Bambaata, Kool Herc, Tim Westwood, DJ Rap, DJ Kraze, Grooverider and Fabio just to name a few. In the past 12 months has had two TV appearances on Channel 4, BBC3 and has featured on BBC 1Xtra. This enables Lady MC to be capable of working on any musical beat whatever the tempo – simply a class of versatility! Currently working with charity 'Spirituality for Kids (SFK)' and started organization 'Rapucation' teaching parts of the National Curriculum using music and positivist as a channel for the young people who find academic methods of learning difficult but can express in a creative way, helping to combat the young people who get thrown out of the system. "I believe my purpose is to not only use my talent but to share it".
